It's hard to even summarize the feelings of frustration, anger, shock, and sadness we've had over the past four years of having Trump as our President and the administration that has worked for him along with the Republican Senators and House of Representatives that have supported him, or at least not stood up to him. Our country has been so divided, and you can feel the division on personal levels within families, friends, and coworkers. Suffice it to say, when the voting polls were showing Trump ahead, the despair literally overcame me and I cried at the thought of another four years of damage done by Trump. Bri reminded me that the mail in ballots hadn't been counted, so there was still hope. Because of Covid, most Democrats voted by mail while most Republicans that resisted the seriousness of the virus, wearing a mask, and social distancing (at the example of Trump), voted in person. So for the initial tallies of votes from the actual voting polls, Trump was in the lead for hours. It wasn't until the middle of the night when the states started counting mail in ballots, that the numbers started changing in favor for Biden, and ultimately after days of counting, it led to his victory. Trump already declared victory though on election night and said that basically that the election was stolen from him, even hours and days before the mail in ballots were done being counted.
On Election Day we watched the votes coming in for as long as we could before it was time to go to bed, and then we continued the next morning before school. Briant took the day off and watched with me as everything unfolded. With his job, in government specifically, he needs to stay up on current issues and events. And this was one of the most important days for him to be "in the know."

I may have had the news on, off and on all week, to stay up on everything. It's the most news, or t.v. for that matter, that I've ever watched on a daily basis! It's an important time to be informed, and I don't want to hear the unrolling of events second-hand. Luckily when we wake up here in Beijing, the nightly news is on, and we have now identified CNN's Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo as some of our favorite news reporters. :)

Trump's behavior is not a surprise since he said that he would never
accept the election results unless he won. So now, in the few days
since the election, he has filed lawsuit after lawsuit and is demanding
recounts. This is not going to play out well for him or our country's
divisevness, but Trump doesn't care about anyone but himself, so we'll
see how this plays out. For now, our family is feeling a little bit of
relief knowing that the end of the Trump era is coming to an end. Biden
is a breath of fresh air!
