Mt. Vernon and D.C--A full day!

For our first time, we traveled to Mt. Vernon.  I did some research and found that Mt. Vernon were having a Fox and Hound hunt.  With the kids' love of horses and dogs, we had to go.  When we got there, we caught the end tail of some men in Revolutionary War clothing with some riding horses.

Then we awaited the arrival of the hounds.
The hounds came out with the Riders and their horses.  The riders looked like they were straight out of England with the leather riding boots, gloves, rounded hats, etc.  We got to watch the dogs get familiar with their surroundings and even got to pet a few.  The dogs were amazingly focused--very well trained. In the 18th century, fox hunting was the thing to do for men of fashion.  So President George Washington did his share of riding and hunting.  Apparently President Washington is known as the Father of the American Foxhound.  He bred the French hounds with his own black and tan hounds to create a new breed of hound.  He himself enjoyed using the hounds for fox hunting. After about 20 riders arrived, the dogs got to run around as one of the riders educated us a little about the dogs and the process of the hunt.  Then they took off to find the "fox" which was just a fake decoy of some sort.
Hard to believe that we were actually at George Washington's house!  The house and grounds were still so well preserved and beautiful.  We could see why he lived there!
We stopped by a snack in the beautiful backyard with a view of the Potomac river. We enjoyed our morning at Mt. Vernon but had to hurry home to catch the metro in to D.C. to be part of celebrating the Nats (Nationals) winning the World Series!  We were ready with some Nats colored clothing!
Signs all over the metro supporting the Nats.

The streets were full of vendors selling team garb.
It seemed like everyone was celebrating with us.
The Nats split up in a bunch of different buses with their families and drove down Philadelphia Ave in a parade.  I was laughing at all of the arms raised with phones.  We could hardly see anything because of the crowd size, but they also had a large screen we could watch.I loved seeing so many supporters!By the time we got back to the metro and back home, we were tired of walking and ready to sit.  We were a little beat after our full, fun day!
