Date to Tian'anmen Square and Forbidden City

On Colombus day, Bri and I decided to take "Piglet" (his scooter) and head to Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City.  The kids still had school, so we took advantage of the blue skies and good weather.  We didn't study up or learn anything for the trip--we just enjoyed a nice day out together with the new sites.  We've seen pictures and videos of these sites for years, and now we were finally there!
As part of the National holiday last week celebrating the beginning of the PRC in 1949, there were lovely displays made of plants and flowers on all four corners on the main road a few blocks from Tian'anmen.

When seeing sites with my friend Amber earlier in the month, I learned that the number of figures on the roof edges represent how important the person living in the house is.  More figures means more importance. We ran into a photo shoot.
The Forbidden City.  The gates were closed because it was a Monday.  Apparently museums are closed on Mondays in China. Good to know! There was a man feeding some pigeons.  He kept throwing cup full after cup full of bird seed on the ground for them.Fun day out together for a date!  It will be wonderful to learn more about these sights over our time here in Beijing, and we look forward to more dates out while the kids are in school.  ;)
