Rhea's 6th birthday!

We celebrated Rhea's 6th birthday!  It really is hard to believe that she's already 6 and going into first grade!  Because I was distracted with flag day and our new assignment to Angola, taking the 2-day SOS seminar, and Briant's Swearing-In ceremony, I waited until Friday night to plan her birthday party for Monday. :) We invited girls from some of the wonderful families that we've gotten to know here at Oakwood and they were nice enough to come and support Rhea, even with the last minute notice.  She started her day by wearing a "Birthday Princess" sash, very appropriate for her, and opening presents before Briant went to work.
She got a kid camera because she is obsessed with taking pictures, along with girly things to play with and decorate her room.  She also got a book because she loves "reading" out loud to herself (and everyone else that is within a 100-foot radius) as she pretends to be a teacher.  Her dolls get read to the most
(she may be my daughter :) ).

Later in the afternoon, we had a princess pool party at the apartment pool and playground.  Very convenient for the mother that is new to the area!  We were afraid we were going to be rained out because the clouds started moving our way as we were setting up, but luckily the rain didn't start until an hour or so after the party.  Rain here doesn't indicate colder temperatures--it's just the sky unloading some of it's moisture (humidity) that collects in the air.  So it was still nice and warm, but not oppressively so.  It was perfect.

We started out by having a few pool games.  This one was the ice cube rubbing game to see who could melt their ice cube the fastest.  We then played a game where they had to find a clear 2 liter bottle at the bottom of the pool.  They seem so calm here in this picture. ;)  It was after the tears of both games with someone's feelings getting hurt because they didn't win or didn't get to hide the bottle, that I decided to forget the directed activities and just let them play.  Amazing...you take the competition out of things and everyone is fine emotionally.  :)

I got a smaller, yet taller cake that was plenty!  It's funny, but even with the cake being a pile of sugar, the kids weren't as interested in it compared to the other junk food, like chips, and stuff.  So we had plenty of cake.  I even had a few girls say that they didn't want to eat it because they didn't want to spoil their dinner!  Can their mother raise my impulsive, at times overly-passionate, Carpe Diem, sort of kids?!

Rhea's friends were nice to bring presents even after I told them not
to because I felt bad about the late notice!

I laugh at this picture because, as usual, Savvy is a good head taller than everyone,
including the girl standing next to her that is her age.  :)

We finished up the day by going to a park that Rhea had requested.  An adorable playground surrounded by the beautiful greenness of Virginia.  We even saw a red cardinal fluttering around for a while--the state bird.

A great day!  We are so glad Rhea was born!
