Long trip! I don't even want to try to remember the number of hours of layover or flying, but it was basically 24 hours from the time we woke up at 4am to get to the airport until the time we landed which was 4am our body time. We were tired! SLC to Chicago, Chicago to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Riga. It's funny how much shorter it was than our trip from Angola to Sydney last summer, but this was still long! The kids of course were plugged in on the long layovers and flights to survive.
And then they became sleeping beauties when they were tired enough to turn the technology off.

Here's me primping in Frankfurt so I could look a little more alive when we landed. Our sponsor family, Kendra and Avo and their three kids, were going to pick us up and take us to our new house.
And then they became sleeping beauties when they were tired enough to turn the technology off.
I couldn't believe how green Latvia was as we flew in! So green and forested on all sides of the plane!
As promised, Kendra and Avo were there with two vehicles to help carry all of us and our luggage. It was so wonderful to finally meet them in person since we had talked on the phone and emailed for months before in preparation for the move. Their smiling faces (and English) were a warm welcome for our jetlagged bodies in a strange country!
We live outside of the city in a town called Pinki that is close to the international school where the kids will go. We asked for housing close to the school so the kids wouldn't have a long commute like they did in Angola (hour minimum each way!). Now they can ride their bikes, walk, etc. to school (or have a short 3 minute drive in the winter with mom!).

And Avo, a quick thinking man, got a group selfie!
We're so grateful for this amazing couple and their kids! They have gone above and beyond answering emails, doing research for us on things they didn't know about, buying a cell phone SIM card so we could be connected right away, buying us food to have a few meals when we arrived, and Avo even captured a few videos of our home that they sent us so we could know what to anticipate. And of course since we've landed they continue to help us (Kendra took me rug and custom frame shopping too!) and have helped keep us informed on things we need to know or have invited us to be social with them. The transition couldn't have been easier. Best sponsors ever!!! We're off to a good start!
